Welcome. I have replaced the pretty picture that used to be on the right with a picture of my new grandson, Luke, born March 10, 1999. Maybe I will have two new pictures this year - two more great-grandchildren.
This homepage was first started as "The Unofficial Barton MacLane Homepage," with the purpose of promoting the image of one of my favorite actors. Recently, I decided to subordinate Barton to a callable page of the main homepage. Click on his picture below to see it.
Barton Maclane started in movies in the late 1920s and during the thirties was in as
many as twelve in one year. He starred in perhaps thirty or more of the 160 films he
appeared in. If you'd like to see some interesting facts about this minor star of the

So, what does an Engineer do after he retires? This Engineer plays a lot of golf - sometimes three or four rounds a week. If anything, this has taught me that just playing a lot of golf doesn't make one a great player; my scores don't go down nearly as quickly as I thought they should. Still, I have fun and that's the whole point in playing any game, isn't it?
One of the nice things about retirement is having the time to travel. My wife and I got back the end of May, 1998 from ten days in Prague, Vienna, and Budapest. In spite of massive bombing during World War II, these cities still have thousands of old treasures - cathedrals, palaces, castles, statues - many six to eight-hundred years old. The Belvedere palace, at left is only a little over three-hundred years old, but doesn't it look nice? The photo below right shows the interior of St. Stephens Cathedral, whose construction started in 1163. The main tower on this one is 448 feet high (that's about 45 stories.)
Both of these are in Vienna.
In Budapest, one of the big attractions is Buda castle, begun in the 13th century. The photo below left shows some of it.
